Make Money With Trendy Crocheted Headbands

By Merle Nixon

One of the hottest looks for spring this year is crocheted headbands. Every girl wants them. They look great on women of any age, on teens, and especially adorable on babies and toddlers. Making a small business of selling these popular accessories is easier than imaginable.

Homemade bands are fast and easy to make for do-it-yourself lovers. All that is needed are a few crochet hooks, a simple filigree pattern, and some stretchy yarns. Making them can be fun and fulfilling, but also time consuming. Some may be surprised to find that the fibers needed to make the bands can be more costly than expected.

Start-up entrepreneurs may find buying pre-fabricated bands in bulk is a much easier way to start. Locating wholesalers online is simple. Removing the overhead costs associated with fully handmade products puts salable items on sale quickly.

Fat, funky, colorful bands are the favorite fashion right now. Bulk sellers offer many size and color options. Because the bands are highly elastic in nature, only a few lengths are needed to craft sizes to fit anyone.

Sellers can customize bands to create unique styles. Inexpensive artificial flowers can be found in most arts and crafts stores. Pin or sew a large silk flower to a band and instantly the plain band becomes a one-of-a-kind fashion accessory suitable for springtime.

Another great way to decorate these wearable wares is with ribbon. Get a variety of spools to create a broad range of designs. Bows are suitable for all seasons. Use narrow-width satin bows in rows or scattered about the top of a band, or sew a single large bow to sit on the side of the wearer's head.

Use narrow 1/8' to 1/4' ribbons to alternate through the open fillet work of the band. Using a mini-safety pin, attach the pin to the end of a long strip of ribbon and feed it through the holes in the desired pattern and color combination. Attach the weave with a few stitches, and don't forget to leave a reasonable patch of un-workedarea so the band remains flexible for a snug fit.

No matter how new to arts & crafts the seller may be, making and selling crocheted headbands is easy. Play with different trinkets to decorate the bands--even puffy glues and glitter glues offer unlimited options. After creating a nice selection, the accessories are attractive commodities for online sellers. Some might prefer weekend flea markets while others may auction the bands in eBay or open an Etsy store. Considering how low the investment costs are, bands can be offered at cheap but profitable prices. The strength of this trend will certainly sell these products in no time.
