CND vs. Harmony

By Jessica Smith

Harmony Gelish and CNG Shellac are two of the most well known hybrid soak-off nail polishes. How do they stack up? Keep reading to find out.

Price
When professionally applied at a salon, the prices are roughly the same. If buying starter kits for yourself, price will vary depending on what store you are purchasing from and the amount of colors you purchase. However, when buying colors individually, Gelish is less expensive than Shellac.
Winner: Gelish

Amount of Colors To Choose From
When it comes to the amount of colors to choose from, both CND and Harmony are lacking. Currently, they only have 48 colors each. That pales in comparison to brands like OPI and China Glaze. When it comes to colors, both CND and Harmony lose.

How easy is it to apply?
This is a tough question. The reason is because both Shellac and Gelish have pros and cons. Shellac requires far less steps during the application process. However it requires a far longer curing time under the UV lamp. There is no clear winner here.

Long lasting formulation?
This is a tricky question. The reason is because Gelish is a gel nail polish and Shellac is a hybrid nail polish. Since Gelish is actually gel, it has a slightly longer lasting formulation that Shellac does. The drawback here is that it must be filed before soaking, which adds to the removal time and a lot of people are annoyed by that. However, if you can handle the filing time, I would say that Gelish is slightly longer lasting.

Speaking of removal time
Again, Gelish is slightly harder to remove because of its gel nail polish formulation. It does require some scraping prior to removal and a lot of people don't like that.

About the Brand
Again, this is a bit tricky to answer. Harmony prides themselves on their discretion, making it harder for the average nail polish enthusiast to enjoy. However, at least when you purchase a bottle of Gelish, there is a lower possibility that it is a faux. Results: Draw

Overall Satisfaction
It really comes down to personal preference, honestly. Choosing Gelish over Shella is kind of like choosing between Coke or Pepsi, Mac or Apple, or Prince or Michael Jackson. It depends on your tastes, because there are valid pros and cons for both.
