How would the Great poker players do as traders? ... Excellent!
Professional traders of stocks or commodities bear striking similarities to poker players. Now I know some of you are already getting angry with this comparison, but please hear me out. Like many people today, I recently found myself quite interested in the WPC (World Poker Championship). I hear people talk about it all the time it seems to me that we can not get enough of it. This interest caused me to do some reading
poker strategies. I was struck by the similarities of many books I have read about trading strategies. If both games boil down to their essence, both rely on money management and controlling emotions. After years of trading I can tell you that money management can be taught to anyone with simple math. Controlling emotions on the other side
can not. In trade, as well as a poker face can calculate the odds next move to decide whether it makes sense. This is exactly what good players and retailers do. Then you have to be able to control their emotions to follow through with your game. Ahh ... This is where the good and great players and dealers of company.
In trading the same excuse I hear a lot. If I had $ 100,000 bill I will be able to trade
better. Believe me, nothing could be further from the truth. The problem of controlling your
emotions grow right along with the size of your account. When I was new to trading I
the same way. I had to change this type of thinking yourself to grow as a trader. I think poker
provides an excellent opportunity to explain why this logic is correct. I made a list of
names of the 15 best players on tour WPC. I watched the Tour of T.V. for several weeks.
I noticed that the same 15 people always spin at the final table of 8 players. Sure
will be the occasional lucky unknown player who will be there in the last table, but names
of my list always appear. In these tournaments do not bring your own money, each
pay fee only. All players have equal stakes in the game.
With the popularity
of the game today many tournaments begin with a few hundreds if not thousands of players
With all things being equal as to explain the same handful of players ever ends
the top. Emotion. Main fear and greed. In fear of being ejected from the game drive
to bad decisions. Later all those who are still in the game, greed takes over and the thought of
winning a bunch of money causes bad decisions. Poker is a game based on a mathematical chance of
various hands dealt. Based on that player with the best mathematical skills will win, but it is
often not the case. I am sure that all the top players are good at math, but there are probably many
new players of each tournament that have better math skills. Especially now that the new poker
hot thing to do for a living. No, you can plan things with perfect mathematical skills, but without
emotional control to follow through with your plan it will fail.
