Toyota Auris HSD 1.8 VVT-i Sol

By Adam Bellware

If all Japaneese people from Toyota are celebrating the 3.03 million hybrids sold in 14 years, I thought it would be appropriate to test the new Auris HSD. Unlike the Prius, a hatchback model is converted to hybrids not being developed to become a hybrid from the start.

The transformation was successful and the result is cheaper than a Prius. Moreover, this transformation is not easy hearing regarding Japanese design aesthetics.

Engine / Transmission

Since taking direct mention of the Prius drive train, the model deserves to take the note to this chapter. This time, the competition between the Auris and its rivals, equipped with economic diesel engines, is even closer, because the model has a price very close to that of a Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI in a generous level of equipment, or similar to that of another model compact equipped with a diesel engine.

Even if you try to compare with a diesel model, you have to mention about a high level of sound once you get at higher speeds or press the accelerator harder.

Decibel level is not deafening, but it forms a gap between the peaceful silence of the run up to 40 km / h without the intervention of the internal combustion engine, and then you hear a discrete noise that becomes increasingly stronger.

Even so, that sound is justified and helps you realize that you're not much green(in the abstract case in which you have not watched the clocks on board) and I found it anyway in almost any compact speed trade regime.

As we already know, you can feel the contribution of the electric motor at higher speeds and this offers a "blast" of torque from a seemingly endless reserve.

From this point of view, Auris HSD seems to be quite lively, perhaps more nimble than the Prius, although the official figures contradict this impression. Explanation - Auris HSD is even greener than the Prius, and this can be seen when we look at CO2 emissions.
