How is security different from each other?
The government allows certain institutions to handle the accounting and reporting of IRAs. All they have to follow the same rules and guidelines. By law, all custodians can allow you to invest IRA in the same types of investments (stocks, bonds, real estate, notes, tax liens, etc.). However, most of the guards made the decision to limit the type of investments you can do. This is not based on law, but it's based on what the custodian wants to offer. However, there are several guards, called "Self Directed" that allow non-traditional investments.
